PRCP~
These past two days been sitting in the lecture hall of XX hosp from 8am-4pm except for break times. Super slack. Our 3 day 'honeymoon period' of orientation. :X Would be in the ward from thur. Thur and fri are 8-4 shift as well for this week cus its our first week (:
And fri i can go do logs (: (: (: happy! My CI is strict, fierce, and nice. And i hope she doesnt have v v high standards for us to meet :X I met my preceptor while checking my schedule for this week. She was friendly and seems v nice (: (: (: Thank God!!!!!!!!!!!!!! super relieved. I'd prayed for a good and nice preceptor. (:
Now i shall complain about something we found out on day 1. There will be no allowance given to the non-sponsored students. Typically the system is: nursing students don't get paid during attachments but they get an allowance of $10/day. Which in my opinion is already very pathetic. :X
Now XX hosp says they cannot afford to pay so many students and thus these poor non-sponsored students are going to...
1. work for free for 3 whole months without pay and without allowance.
2. of course, they've to do morn, noon and nite shifts
3. and work on public hols if they're scheduled
How would you feel if ure the parent of the student...or the student herself/himself....
And yes definately we are learning from the hosp. But definitely we are also really working for them ok. Its way more tiring than any part-time job ive done. Ok this doesnt affect me in the sense that im a sponsored student. But, the non-sponsored ones are so 'ke lian' you cant not feel anything about the matter right..
If you say that you cannot afford to pay them just a basic allowance, how come you can be allowed to take them in to work for you? Shouldnt they go to YY hosp or GG hosp that can afford to better care for them...Sorry but i really find the whole matter outrageous.
For those not in poly, people of other courses get paid for their attachments ok. Paid a salary, not merely an allowance. Thank God im sponsored. Imagine paying sch fees of $1100 to go work for free for 3 months.
Maybe its really taxing on hosp finances. Maybe the sch can reduce our fees for year 3 sem 2 instead. Its not like we're going to sch anyway. And i shall email NYP after my PRCP (: Maybe something could come out of the feedback. Hopefully the next batch of non-sponsored nursing students wont be as 'ke lian'.
